For some reason people want to continue to talk about spreading democracy in Iraq. What people are failing to recognize is that the Iraq war is providing the same motivation to the people that attacked us on 9/11. Bin Laden and his fighters are upset at U.S. foreign policy and our presence on their soil. So they flew planes into our buildings. Our response was to send 150,000 troops into the same region they want us to leave. Makes sense right?
My problem is not with people who say that they support the war (even though I am not sure why we are there). My problem is with people that say we were attacked because "they" hate freedom and democracy. When people say this you can immediately dismiss them as ignorant and uneducated on the issue. If people in the U.S. are to lazy/stupid to read into the issues of the Middle East then they would be better serving the community by not speaking on the issue at all. All of the information to educate yourself on the issue is readily available.
I do not claim to be an expert by any means but I do claim to have read into the issue. One thing that is very clear is that our war on terrorism is not as black and white as people might like to think. There are some very complex social and political issue at hand. People in the U.S. need to define their goal in this war. Is the goal to keep us safe on our own soil? If that is the goal then I believe we are going about it the wrong way. It has been stated very clearly by Bin Laden why he attacked us. Read his letter here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2002/nov/24/theobserver
I am not sure why it doesn't get any press, but the reason is not because we are non-believers or because Bin Laden hates democracy. I think Bin Laden and his followers would prefer to just be left alone. In his eyes, we have not left him this option. I am NOT condoning Bin Laden or his actions I am just pointing out that he is fighting for a cause HE believes in and is not out to just randomly kill people for NO reason.
Michael Scheuer in the video above is an expert on why the "terrorist" attack us. Watch the video.

I agree I am tried of hearing that the war in Iraq is about spreading democracy. It isn't and neither is it about fighting terrorism. The war in Iraq is just another reason to have overbloated defense budgets to keep useless programs, like the Startegic Missle Defense, alive. No terrorist has country and countries are the only ones who can afford to launch missles. The other reason for this war is fostering or securing oil. The problem with this idea is that the true cost of oil is never added to the price of a gallon of gas. If we added what it cost for our military's to secure the oil to a gallon of gas then everyone would look for a different form of fuel or transportaion. Instead, we just keep borrowing money we don't have to fight a war that enables us to buy cheap gas. This constent borrowing of money is basically defering our taxes, because eventually we will have to pay the debt back by either adding the true cost of produsts we buy or raising taxes to deal with the mountain of debt. The debt was $5 trillion when GWB took office and now stands at almost $9 trillion. An excellant graph can be found at National Debt Graph.
Your title of 'Nobody is Listening" hits the nail on the head. The reason Bin Laden is fighting America is we are on holy land. It doesn't matter if it Americans, Russians, or Muslims. He only wants Wahhabi Muslims on holy land. Bin Laden actually offered to the Kind of Saudi Arabia to fight against Sadam when he invaded Kuwait in 1991. I wish Americans would wake up and realize that 16 of 19 9/11 terrorist were Saudis. If America decidied to actually fight terroism they would realize that the terrorist were already in America and I'm not just talking about the 9/11 terroist. I am also talking about our politicians who enabled / emboldened the terrorist. For example the people of the 1980's who supplied arms to Bin Laden to fight the Russians in Afghanistan or armed Sadam to fight Iran and now who ignored that that Saudi's play both sides of the issue, but they don't care just as long as they get rich.
In the end, it's always about the Benjamins. It's the same reason we were willing to sell weapons to other countries in the past. Anything to make a buck.
What is ironic about this situation is that we are spending incredible amounts of money on military and defense in an effort to help citizens of another country who may or may not want our help. They certainly didn't ask for it.
The cost comes from taxpayers. How do we get repaid for the BILLIONS spent on this war? A several hundred dollar tax credit. And where will the money come from to fund the tax credit? Yup - we are borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.
Hey Donkey Kicker! How about a new post every month or so?!!?
Obama finally wins the Democratic nomination and the donkey kicker has nothing to say? I'm disappointed...
